You know that you have the drive and the motivation. There’s just something holding you back, and you don’t even know what it is. This can become frustrating to deal with because the only person holding you back is yourself.
There’s a term for this problem. It’s a “mental block”.
You really want to begin your fitness journey. Or, perhaps, you’ve fallen out of sync and want to get back into it. Either way, you have a goal of self-betterment that you know accomplishing will make your life improve drastically.
So, what’s stopping you?
A mental block is a psychological problem many would-be and current boot camp attendees run into. They suddenly find themselves unable to accomplish tasks that they know they can do. Or they find themselves not attending sessions.
Whether you’re new to the boot camp family or all ready a part of it, there are ways to get yourself through this block and back on track. You don’t have to suffer in silence.
As said before, a mental block is a psychological issue. Sometimes you don’t even realize you’re struggling with it! It can cause you to hold yourself back from accomplishing fitness tasks, or completing workouts that in the past you were able to perform with ease.
The block is normally triggered by a fear of failure, whether it’s fear of others seeing you fail, or fear of seeing yourself fail. It causes you to go into a “flight or fight” response. Normally it leans towards the “flight” which means you find yourself holding back for no reason you can think of. But don’t worry; there are some easy ways to get through this.
The first step in overcoming any mental issue is to identify that you are struggling with it in the first place. If you can admit, “Okay, maybe I’m holding myself back” then you’re already putting yourself on the path back to success.
Once you’ve identified the block you need to try and identify what’s causing it. Are you scared of getting hurt while doing a particular workout? Maybe you struggle with a task physically and don’t want others to see you like that? Whatever it is, find that fear and embrace it.
Remember, you have a goal you’ve set for yourself, and that puts you on the path to a happier and more energetic life. Don’t give that up because you’re afraid. Push the fear aside and get yourself where you want to be.
We’ve now identified that we have a mental block and what is causing it. Now it’s time to smash through that wall so you can stop holding yourself back.
One way to do this is to speak to a Fit Body Boot Camp trainer about this problem you’re having. They may have a great solution to help you overcome this block together! After all, FBBC wants to see you succeed.
Another trick to use is to visualize yourself accomplishing whatever task it is you’re struggling with. Can’t seem to get a hold of the plyo box? Visualize yourself completing the workouts. Maybe have your trainer go over form with you again. And never be afraid of repetition. Repeating the same move over and over can really help with building muscle memory and building confidence.
And, we get it, maybe it’s not even something specific holding you back. Maybe it’s just getting up and coming to workout sessions in the first place that’s stopping you! Remember: no one is here to judge you. Everyone, from attendees to trainers, want to help YOU succeed. If that means coming to your house and picking you up, or calling you to remind you of your goals, then that’s exactly what they’ll do.
You’ve identified the mental block, and you’re getting yourself out there, attending boot camp sessions regularly. That’s awesome! There are a lot of people cheering for you.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t always mean that the struggle is over. Mental blocks can come back, and suddenly you find yourself sitting on the couch watching “Game of Thrones” again instead of at boot camp with your friends. How do you avoid falling back into your old habits?
You need to be aware of yourself and your mental state. Do you suddenly find yourself making excuses? Maybe you’re struggling with that pylo box again? It’s okay; just make sure you’re aware of it.
Find an anchor for yourself. Use some positive self-talk to motivate yourself.
“I can do this.”
“Relax, don’t go there, you’ve got this.”
If you can keep yourself calm and remind yourself that you CAN accomplish this, then you can overcome any mental block that comes your way.
And don’t forget that you can always ask your Fit Body Boot Camp trainer for help. Whether they’re just meeting you or not, they’re happy to help in whatever way they can to help you succeed.
