How To Lose the Quarantine 15

How To Lose the Quarantine 15

Quarantine has impacted our daily lives. Our relationships, our work/life balance, and our health have all taken a dramatic turn from where they were 9 months ago. For some it may have changed for the better. If you are in that group, that’s great! Keep it going. However, if you are part of the 50%–true statistic–of individuals who have gained the Quarantine 15, it’s not too late to take control of your health.

Here are some helpful tips to lose the Quarantine 15.

  1. Know Your Limits

Our bodies have this magical way of letting us know when you’re doing something helpful or hurtful to your health. For example, when you are on the couch late at night eating a second bowl of popcorn and a caffeinated beverage, your stomach begins to hurt and your brain becomes filled with stressful thoughts about work. That’s your body telling you that you’re not caring for it properly.

Similarly when you workout your body can tell you if you’re pushing too hard. Or taking on too much too quickly. If you feel tension or pain during a workout, you may need to adjust your level of intensity. Or if you’re feeling a euphoric feeling of delayed onset muscle soreness, that’s your body congratulating you on a great workout. Listening to your body is key to knowing when you need to slow down and when you need to speed up.

  1. Identify Your Goals

Your goals should be broken down as simply as possible, that way you never forget. If you’re setting fifteen goals and place the expectation on yourself to succeed all fifteen at once, you may be setting yourself up for failure. So try focusing on one goal at a time and build from there. Never settle until your good gets better and your better gets best.

Additionally, identify the purpose or the why behind your goal. It’s easy to make a goal of losing a certain amount of weight–10 pounds, 2 inches, or a dress size–but figuring out the why is what will drive you to successfully accomplishing that goal. Are you trying to lose weight so you can have more energy to run around with your kids? Are you hoping to feel confident in the dress you bought pre-covid for your best friend’s wedding? Studies show that when you focus on your why you will be more successful in reaching your goal.

  1. Have A Set Path to Success

The reason why over 50% of individuals who set a goal to lose weight don’t succeed is due to a lack of planning. It’s great that you’ve made the decision to take back control of your health, but what actions are you taking? You want to exercise more and focus on calories in / calories out? What does that look like?
