Hello! I am Dinah Goodman. I love to help people reach their fitness goals and I believe in total wellness. I want to instill in others that fitness is a personal journey shared with people that uplift and inspire us. A tribe that gets us through our goals. I want to be that inspiration and motivator and I love to be a part of each person’s journey to total wellness and happiness.
Ever since childhood, I have loved sports and fitness. I was involved in sports at young age and was inspired by my father, who was a soldier in the Army and lived and breathed the fitness life style. As a child, I played soccer, volleyball, swimming, and water polo, in addition to softball and gymnastics. If it was outdoors, I wanted to be a part of it.
In 1986 at the age of 17 I joined the Army and learned in boot camp that I could do much more than I ever thought I was physically capable of. It was an eye opener and challenged me both physically and mentally. I did not know at the time however that having proper nutrition was just as important as getting enough physical activity. I would learn later in life that working out is just one component of fitness.
In the Army, I attended Airborne or jump school and ran more than I ever did before. After that however, I had a desk job and, although I was still young and did physical training each morning, I did not eat enough or healthily nor did I get the proper amount of sleep to rejuvenate my body.
While in the Army, I discovered body building and started to eat right and mold my body for competition. Then I turned to power lifting for 19 years and was injured. I pushed myself too hard and wound up hurting myself, which set me back from discovering my ideal fitness goals. I trained others but back in the 80s and 90s, exercise science was mostly still being tweaked and we made a lot of mistakes which manifested itself in the form of permanent injuries that came back to haunt me at a later age. I was on a cycle of injury, heal, lift heavy and hard again, injury again. It was a difficult cycle to break.
I was a personal trainer and taught gymnastics both part time and full time in some capacity my whole adult life. I became a certified Sports Nutritionist. I joined the Navy after the Army and was injured again on deployment. With an injured and weak low back, hips, and shoulders, I felt I would never get back to fitness and wellness. I discovered I had a slow thyroid and I submitted to the idea that I would never be healthy again and I used my injuries and age as an excuse. I had become one of the women I listened to my whole life who did not have confidence in their abilities to get healthy again.
Finally, I got tired of making excuses. I was training other people and they were seeing results but I was not taking care of myself. I decided to stop making excuses and to feed off the energy and positivity of the people I trained and those around me that loved fitness. Although I am not the same person I was when I was younger, I have learned that I can still be healthy and fit for my age group and could modify my workouts to maximize their effect while avoiding injury. I did not have to work out for 3 hours or even 1 hour a day to get back to my fitness goals. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) when done in a boot camp setting with motivating coaches, awesome music, and a tribe of amazing people can have such a profound effect! We can show you modifications to each exercise, depending on your fitness level so that any person from beginner to advanced can have an amazing, impacting workout and, as a Sports Nutritionist, I can help you fine tune your eating habits to help you drop body fat and maintain lean body mass. Our coaches will help you be accountable in a supportive manner so that you always have someone to talk to about your goals and future plans.
