Hi! My name is Emmanuel Martinez.
I have been passionate about health and fitness for nearly 20 years. I first fell in love with it when i was a freshmen in high school. As if being a freshmen wasn’t tough already, we are also in process of growing into our bodies. This, of course, caused me to lack confidence and have a low self-esteem. Exercising with the my classmates was tough! Everyone else seemed to be way ahead of me. They were able to outlift, outrun, outperform me in all aspects of fitness. Flat out embarrassing! I learned early on that I couldn’t compare myself to other classmates, everyone is different and on their own journeys. Soon, I realized this was a battle I was fighting with myself, not the guy next to me. My biggest competition was me. This moment allowed me to set a benchmark for myself that my goal was to be better today than I was tomorrow. Be better tomorrow than I was today. I knew the only way to achieve my goals of fitness I needed to commit myself to working out consistently, during school in my athletic period, after school, summer time, at home doing push ups, sit ups, curls with the little weight I had. Whatever it takes! Results weren’t quick, but there was no shortcuts to take.
In life, I always take pride in working for what I have, including my fitness level. It makes the struggle worthwhile, because you can always look back to where you came from and what you overcame to get where you are. The first realization of “gains” was when I was flexing in the mirror, just like any other teenage boy, and I noticed a slight bump in my biceps area. Dare I say, i think I have a bicep! I quickly ran to show my brother my astonishing discovery. That, in itself, fueled my fire. Results are attainable with the right mindset and determination – no secrets, no shortcuts – just hard work, no excuses. It was critical to make it a part of my lifestyle, like brushing my teeth, eating dinner, showering. Working out is not something I skipped. I made an effort that regardless of my work schedule, work or personal travel that I was committed to 5 days a week. If I missed one, I’d find a way to make up for it. Discipline was more important than motivation. Discipline is what keeps me going day in, day out when i don’t want to work out, when I want to sleep in. Motivation comes and goes with inconsistency and tough to have a foundation based on motivation alone. Discipline also applies to my eating habit. Why throw away a good workout to only eat bad food after. Once the results started coming, I had to maintain it by eating better, using food for fuel and sustenance. Although, now I’m at a place where I can afford a comfort meal occasionally, my health foundation is based on discipline in effort to exercise and eating right.
Over time, I became more confident, gained strength physically & mentally, and clothes started to fit better, the way I liked them to. This was far from a social construct of fitness. my Journey was mine to create and achieve toward and your journey should be your own as well. This is where my drive to start my next chapter in life: opening my own gym. Fit Body Boot Camp was in line with my vision and goals of what it meant to changing lives. I felt my calling was to help people and share with them the benefits of a healthy and fit lifestyle. I want to help others realize that fitness isn’t about looks. There’s so much more to it than looking good, but long term effects of a healthy lifestyle. I want to help people be more active to keep up with the kids, have higher energy levels, and improve mental health. I want to help you create and drive toward your own health journey and realize its not what someone tells you it is, it’s what you tell yourself. I want to be a support system to achieve your health and fitness goals. I want to help you have the feeling of accomplishment every time like I do, so it could help you overcome daily obstacles in life with a better attitude. It won’t be easy, but to think that working out could be the toughest part of your day, why not do it!
