How To Overpower Your Late Night Cravings
Everyone at one point in their life has been hunched over a sink eating chocolate chip cookies at 10pm after a full day of clean eating. Why we do this is easy to identify. Cravings. More importantly we want to know, how do you overpower your late night cravings?
Cravings are the way our bodies notify us that something is askew. There is an imbalance in your nutrition and the desire to consume something, that is your body trying to cope to bring back the balance. But this imbalance isn’t your body notifying you to eat more Oreos. So what is it asking for?
In some cases your body could be asking for more nutrients to battle a deficiency. For example, if you are trying a new diet that has reduced the caloric intake, you may not be properly feeding your body. It is important to ensure you are receiving the correct amount of macronutrients and micronutrients that your body needs to stay energized through the day. Ensure that your protein, carbohydrate and fat needs are sufficiently met.
A study done found that not getting enough sleep could cause a hormonal imbalance that could contribute to overeating. Be sure to keep a sleep schedule that will make you feel well-rested and revitalized. A good sleep hygiene routine is important and easy. Go to bed at the same time each night and get up at the same time each morning. Also, ensure your bedroom is quiet, dark, and at a comfortable temperature. Finally, remove all electronic devices, like TVs, computers, and even phones from the bedroom.
Something most people don’t realize that could be sabotaging their diets, the media. When everyone you know is making the Whipped Coffee from Tik Tok and fast food delivery companies keep slipping emails into your inbox with advertisements for two burgers for $2.00, it’s easy to give in to your cravings. Studies have shown that commercials and ads of food products are designed to elicit cravings. Even when you are in bed ready to sleep. So instead of checking your emails or watching Tik Tok videos before bed–which you should stop entirely as it isn’t a part of your good sleep routine–try listening to music or read a book.
Finally, one of the biggest culprits of cravings…dehydration. Did you know that the human body is made up of 70% water? And since we are mostly water, it is natural that we thirst. However, thirst can often manifest the same as hunger. So the next time you suddenly feel like snacking try to drink a glass of water first to make sure you are not just deficient in water.
And if you find drinking water to be more of a chore than a reward, try making your water more interesting with TruLean’s Everyday Fit. With six different flavors and no added sugar or added stimulants, it’s the perfect treat to reach for any time of the day. This is also the first water enhancer that replenishes nutrients to help support an active lifestyle.
So if you are looking to win not only the battle, but the war over late night snacking, remember to listen to your body. Be sure to reach your macronutrient and micronutrient goals. Get enough sleep by maintaining a healthy sleep hygiene routine. Limit as best you can your exposure to food related posts and advertisements, especially late at night. And if you feel hungry, try to see if that craving is quenched by drinking water first. And if you need to jazz up your water, reach for one of six flavors of TruLean’s Everyday Fit water additive.
