Today we settle one of nutrition’s longest standing debates. Should you cut down on carbs or fats? Both get a bad rap, but which one is worse for you?
Here’s the surprising answer: it’s all up to you!
Yep, really. That’s what nutrition expert Jason Phillips says.
Jason Phillips, founder of iN3 Nutrition, has been instrumental in transforming Fit Body Boot Camp’s nutrition program. One of the things he teaches is the simple formula for creating a diet—including how to manage your carb and fat intake.
Let’s take a step-by-step look at this formula. Try to plug in your own dietary preferences as you go through each step!
First, make sure you’re eating at or below your daily recommended amounts of calories and proteins. For example, if you should be eating 2000 calories a day, try to get as close to that number as you can without surpassing it. You can use a fitness tracking app to calculate your daily recommended values.
Choose which of the two you want to cut down on. Say you decide to limit your carb intake. That means your free to eat higher levels of fat (just don’t go too crazy).
The last step is to jump in and try out your new diet! Buy all the foods, snacks, and drinks you’ll need to sustain your diet for the long haul. If something feels off, or if you don’t get the results you hoped for, adjust until you figure out what works for you.
