Hi, my name is Russell Scalise. My journey into fitness started through sports. As a youngster, I played every sport possible because I loved sports and I enjoyed the camaraderie of playing baseball or basketball with my neighborhood friends, many of whom I am still friends with to this day. In high school, I played football, baseball, and basketball, and it was then that I learned that strength, speed and endurance were essential to becoming the best athlete that I could be, and, if I wanted to receive playing time then I had to work harder then the next guy. Whether it was running basketball ladders or trying to do more reps on the bench press, I always pushed to be first or do more reps. The more I pushed the more results I noticed and the more results I noticed the more I pushed. As a result, my body was in great physical and cardio shape, which gave me the edge to compete. AND, my body looked good, providing me with an extra boost of confidence.
After graduating from high school I continued playing recreational sports and hit the weights several times a week, but as my teens turned into my early twenties I saw a change in my body that I couldn’t comprehend. My body was muscular and I could still run all day, but I noticed the high school six-pack was now a two-pack… if you looked closely. Like many people, I mistakenly believed that I would never be overweight because I was doing some form of exercise 5-6 days a week. Sharing my concerns with a friend, he asked how was my nutrition. And I responded, “what’s that?” I remember hearing my high school coaches talk about eating the right foods, but I definitely wasn’t listening. I realized I couldn’t out train a bad diet and I started truly educating myself on the importance of nutrition. I never counted calories, but I replaced hamburgers with grilled chicken sandwiches and pop with water, and I immediately saw and felt the results. The more I learned about nutrition the more I felt a need to share whatever knowledge I had with family and friends.
Today I am still as passionate about exercise and fitness and as I’ve aged I am even more aware of nutrition, and the benefits of a healthy diet. I have two teenage kids who are involved in sports and I love talking fitness and healthy eating with them as it relates to sports, but I also stress the importance of fitness and healthy eating as it relates to a healthy life.
After spending 20 years on the trading floor at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, working side by side with hundreds of people on a daily basis, I was searching for a new career after my trading career ended. I came across Fit Body Boot Camp by coincidence when a friend mentioned he was doing a buildout of a fitness place for a friend. I went home and google FBBC and I was instantly intrigued. I thought to myself, I can go to work every day and help people do exactly what I want to do every day, exercise and eat right. After I went to just one session at an existing FBBC and had a great work out with a bunch of people who made me feel as if we knew each other for years, I knew I had found the next phase of my life.
I look forward to sharing my passion for fitness and nutrition with the Orland Park community. I am very confident that Fit Body Boot Camp will help you and I achieve our fitness goals together as we embark on a new journey.
